Welcome to StayingRich.net

Our mission is to help the rich stay rich. Advice abounds on getting rich, however except for J. Paul Getty’s marvelous book How To Be Rich, there are few resources on being and staying rich. This pursuit is worthwhile because society needs rich people; their wealth powers investments that create new businesses, new products and productive jobs.

Rich in our context is net worth, the market value of your assets minus your liabilities. Just because you have a high income, it does not mean you are rich, although if you spend less than you earn you might become rich.

We consider individuals or families with a net worth of at least US$10 million, in 2010 dollars, to be rich, while those with a net worth of US$25 million or more are wealthy. Nevertheless, even US$25 million does not afford the lifestyle of the rich and famous if you wish for your money to outlive you.

Our site offers a variety of resources:

  • Our ideas on getting, being and staying rich
  • Rules of the road for staying rich
  • Recommended reading
  • Our investment research for avoiding pitfalls
  • Some interesting charts and graphs

Getting rich requires hard work, focus and good luck. Staying rich requires discipline and minimizing bad luck. We hope to start you thinking about the habits that develop that discipline and the broader issues in society that relate to your standard of living, personal safety and family survival.
